Do we need to buy any hardware?

No. Datto Endpoint Backup is completely appliance-free. Agents install directly on each endpoint and back up data straight to the Datto Cloud. No servers to rack, no hardware to maintain.

What happens if a device is on a metered connection?

You can configure agents to automatically pause backups when a device detects a metered connection — protecting your mobile workers from unexpected data charges without manual intervention.

How fast can we recover a failed server?

Windows systems support bare metal recovery to the same or dissimilar hardware. Recovery time depends on data volume and connection speed, but the direct-cloud architecture minimizes time-to-recovery significantly vs. legacy solutions.

Is our data encrypted?

Yes — data is encrypted in-flight and at-rest by default. Organizations with stricter compliance requirements can opt for customer-managed encryption keys for full control over key custody.

How long does deployment take?

With Datto RMM or Kaseya VSA integration, agents can be deployed to your entire environment simultaneously. Most organizations are fully deployed and running initial backups within a single business day.

Can we protect cloud VMs and remote employees?

Yes. Datto Endpoint Backup protects cloud instances (AWS, Azure, GCP), remote desktops, laptops used by road warriors, and any Windows or Mac system with an internet connection.

What is bare metal recovery?

Bare metal recovery (BMR) means restoring an entire system — operating system, applications, settings, and data — to a machine with no existing OS. Instead of reinstalling Windows, reconfiguring software, and then restoring files, BMR rebuilds the machine from a single backup image. Datto supports BMR to the same hardware or dissimilar hardware, meaning you can restore a failed server onto a completely different physical machine and be back up in hours instead of days.

Can I back up my Google Workspace?

Yes — through Datto SaaS Protection, which covers Gmail, Google Drive, Shared Drives, Calendar, and Contacts. It's a separate product from Datto Endpoint Backup but managed through the same Datto portal. Iron Cove deploys and manages both.
